So I know I have posted a ton of pictures, but really haven't written much to go along with them. But we all know we like the pictures better anyway ;). Our trip to Oregon was a nice two days. We stayed at the Wyndham resort in Klamath Falls and it was so beautiful. I couldn't stop breathing in deeply every time I was outside. It was just that wonderful Oregon pine smell. It felt so good to be there. We went to Crater Lake which really was breath taking. If any of you haven't been, you need to go. It is the bluest color I have ever seen in nature. I think I went there as I little girl, but I don't remember. So, it was like the first time for all of us. Anyway we left Crater Lake and drove to Winston where we stayed at my moms house for a couple of days. Dawn met us there with her daughter. It was really nice. The next morning my grandpa called to tell us Grandma was in critical condition and the prognosis was very grim. She was on a breathing machine because she had stopped breathing the night before, as well as a few other problems I won't go into now. We left as soon as we could get the van loaded. I was especially worried because I hadn't seen her in a couple of years, and I have been worried about it. Especially over the past year because I knew her health was declining. Because my dad passed when I was so young, I was never very close to my other grandparents. Also they lived 15 hours away from us. So for me my grandma is the only grandma I have ever really had. My siblings and I have always been very close to Grams and Gramps ;).
Anyway, it took ten hours to get to Fresno, CA. We stopped at the hospital right away to see her. She looked so pale and small. It was a little shocking at first. But it felt good to finally be with her. She did respond by raising her eyebrows and kind of moving her mouth a little. I think she knew we were there. The next day she opened her eyes a little and kind of smiled (as much as she could with all those tubes) when I was telling her about the kids and about Lilah getting into my makeup. She seemed to be getting a little stronger each day.
So we stayed for about five days. We took a little trip over to Pismo Beach and Solvang, CA (a cute little dutch tourist town) to have a little fun while we were there. The beach was wonderful! There were pelicans everywhere and it was perfect weather. As you can see from the pictures the kids had a blast. On the last day I went to tell Grandma goodbye. I knew that I most likely wouldn't see her again. At least in this life. (Sorry if I am making this too sad. I don't mean to. I have just had a lot of questions about our trip and about my grandma I thought it would be easiest to just post a blog about it.)
As of today she is doing ok. It has been kind of a roller coaster. One day it seems like she is getting a lot stronger, and the next day there are new problems. They have tried to take her off the respirator a few times, but she gets to tired and her heart rate gets to high (that is how they know she is tired). She still has a feeding tube, and tonight they are trying to figure out why she is bleeding in her gut. She is putting up a good fight, mostly for my grandpa I think, but her body seems to be getting too weak and worn out. At 85 her body can only do so much. I am not sure what the outcome will be for sure, but I think we are all preparing for her fight to possibly end. Please keep her and my grandpa in your prayers. They have been married about 63 years? and my grandpa is very heartbroken... although he seems to be dealing pretty well considering all that has transpired.
We love you Grandma, and most of all we just want you to be comfortable whatever the Lord chooses for you!
